First Response Emergency Care

The First Response Emergency Care (FREC) modular pre-hospital training syllabus enables learners to attain both knowledge & practical clinical competencies in emergency care.

The suite of qualifications comprises a level 3 certificate, level 4 certificate and a diploma at level 5. FREC offers learners a pathway to enhancing their individual capabilities within all sectors of pre-hospital medical care.

All FREC course are regulated by OFQUAL and are on the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) and consist of face to face learning and a clinical development portfolio. All courses have pre and post course work to complete.

The FREC suite of courses has been mapped against the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons(Edinburgh) Pre-hospital clinical framework document.

The Level 3 meets all the competencies for a non-health care professional pre-hospital provider to care for patients as a secondary role. It has 35-hours of contact learning time.

The Level 4 Award meets all the competencies for non-health care professional pre-hospital providers to care for patients as a primary role, i.e. semi-autonomous practitioners.
