UK International search and rescue (UKISAR)

The Event Medicine Company holds a range medical equipment for the UK International Search and Rescue Team (UKISAR) on 4 hours notice to deploy to disasters overseas.

To date there have been three full deployments, and one standby.

The first deployment was to Haiti in January 2010

The second went to New Zealand in February 2011, and the third to Japan in March 2011 (approximately 3 weeks later).  This presented a challenge as the equipment had not been returned from New Zealand by the time it was required for the Japanese Earthquake.

Staff at The Event Medicine Company were on standby when the Japanese Earthquake hit the news, and a second scale of equipment was prepared.

Our most recent near deployment was the Turkish Earthquake which struck in October 2011. The kit was collected and kept on standby for a full deployment.  The UKSAR teams were never required in the end, so there was no deployment.
