Mr Derek Stuart

Derek Stuart began working in the Emergency Operations Centre of Royal Berkshire Ambulance Service in 2001. Derek worked as an emergency call taker and a dispatcher for 5 years before moving to Thames Valley Police control room in 2006. Returning to the newly formed South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust in 2007 Derek was promoted and still works today as a Control Duty Manager for the Service. This job involves managing a team of control staff and taking overall command in the control room on a shift by shift basis. Derek has experienced several major incidents and has undertaken extensive training to deal with any situations that arise. Derek holds a International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch diploma with honours and also works voluntarily as an Ambulance Community Responder in West Berkshire.

Derek joined the Event Medicine Company in June 2005 and his first event was the Battle of Trafalgar celebrations in Portsmouth which saw 250,000 people flock into Southsea. Derek has since worked at all major airshows and events for the Company and in 2010 took charge of Medical Control for Farnborough International Airshow and two major Ironman triathlon events.
