International Festival of the Sea

The International Festival of the Sea (IFOS) was one of a number of events, large and small, held around the UK under the banner of SEA BRITAIN 2005.

IFOS was a major celebration of everything maritime and attracted some 250,000 visitors and 500 ships over the 4 days.

The Event Medicine Company was contracted to deliver first aid and emergency medical services to everyone involved with and within the footprint that IFOS occupied with the Naval Base and on a 24 hour basis.

The cover provided included a Medical Centre and 4 outlying first aid posts with 2 mobile doctors, 2 bicycle paramedics and 4 ambulances.

In addition to the 4 days of IFOS itself the Event Medicine Company provided cover at paramedic level to the build up and breakdown phases which involved a further 15 days.

During IFOS itself the Event Medicine Company handled 549 patients of whom 29 required onward referral to hospital.
